surrender

at four
owls call back and forth
so loud
they wake me

my window open
the moon shines in

young bucks at sunrise
on the edge of a field
reindeer antlers sticking straight out
velvet two prongs up to the sky

stop
surrender it all
just be

....  then
a new day

bow down
on one knee
to the red-orange paintbrush
in morning light
smell its spicy tickle

on my finger
the celtic ring
now gone
has left a blank space
shiny skin
untouched by sun

the field lies empty
a fluttering of leaves
mixed with birdsong

months have passed
since i last cried

yet this spirit morning
this closeness of the air
for a few seconds
tears wash over me
simple
like raindrops
cleansing the earth
my body
