new moon in june

this early morning
gathering wild rose petals
as i was doing 31 years ago
when labor came
with my firstborn

today i'll birth
my own self
in her memory place
we'll have lunch

patience

the walk at 5
is thick with mosquitoes
the young buck
bounding out of the path
onto a rocky beach

last night on the island
some kind of friday summer magic
people dressing up .. walking to parties
kids running all over

at sunset on south point
crows chase an eagle out
and across the water

after dark
fireflies everywhere
lighting the sides of the road
one drifts up
a beacon over our heads

the wind shifts to north now
there's air to breathe
gray amidst the blue
a touch of fall
even now
in june
